Science centre partners with top Canadian chef

TELUS Spark has joined forces with Canadian celebrity chef Roger Mooking to create an interactive dining space.

The science centre in Alberta has worked alongside Mooking to develop the Social Eatery that will appeal to families visiting the attraction.

Mooking has already established a strong reputation in the industry and is a regular on the Food Network and Cooking Channel, as well as author of top-selling cookbook Everyday Exotic.

It is expected the menu at Social Eatery will reflect Mooking’s culinary travels around the world, but will retain Canadian appeal. Highlights will include a stacked sandwich with 10oz of locally-sourced beer as well as cheese buns with Canadian cheddar.

"I'm so excited to be coming back home to Alberta to open a concept that will feature local and international ingredients and purveyors," said Chef Mooking.

The Trinidad-born chef added: "The creativity and boundary pushing at TELUS Spark is the perfect fit."

Barry Crean, chief operating officer at TELUS Spark, explained that the institution wanted to work with Mooking to develop food that would offer strong choices for visitors and the chef had success working on similar projects.

He added: "Our desire was to engage a chef who was familiar with developing flavourful, high quality and healthy food offerings for families in fast-paced environments like Mooking's Twist by Roger Mooking in Toronto Pearson Airport."

Opened in 2011, the 15-acre interactive science centre provides an interactive experience for around 400,000 visitors each year. Focusing on STEM subjects, the attraction includes the Dome Theatre, which is the venue for movies and live planetarium shows.
